Along the Coffin Trail at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge
The trees produce buttresses for support - Since the root systems in the rainforest are shallow, and the trees grow to over 80 m high, the buttresses keep them from falling over.
Parasitic trees such as figs, begin growing high up in the tree canopy, and they produce root systems that grow downward, eventually reaching the ground. They eventually "strangle" the host tree.
There are many, many, many species of lichens.
One of the coffins left by the indigenous people of Sabah. The coffins were placed in sacred places in the forest.
